Tested by a pro runner for the Boston Marathon
Sustainable fitness brand Allbirds is back with the newest addition to its running shoe line-up: The Tree Flyer, a shoe that aims to bridge the gap between environmentally-conscious kit and performance level training.
The most notable update in the Tree Flyer over the previously released Dasher 2 is the development of the SwiftFoam midsole foam, a material made from castor beans, a natural resource with a 20% lower carbon footprint than petroleum-based alternatives
That midsole is designed to be 30% more responsive and 25% lighter, delivering an improved experience for runners as well as a drop in weight to 269 grams – the lightest running shoe made by the brand so far.
There’s also a new sleek-fitting knit upper made from Allbirds signature eucalyptus-based tree fibre, providing a performance fit and delivering breathability and increased durability.
Those materials come together to give the Tree Flyer a carbon footprint of 9.92kg CO2e, with excess waste recycled to craft the external heel.
The Tree Flyer is the brand’s first entry into providing a shoe that has the benefits of less sustainable competitors, allowing runners to focus on training without sacrificing the environment. Testing for the shoe was carried out by a pro runner for the Boston Marathon.
The Tree Flyer is available to buy for £150 from 17 May 2022 and comes in five colour options. To find more about the Tree Flyer click here.
