Swap training miles for pints at the New Balance pub

Time to get rewarded for all those hard-earned Strava miles
The New Balance pub is back

New Balance has announced the return of its hugely popular "The Runaway" Pub, a traditional London boozer where runners can swap their Strava training miles for pints or soft drinks.

The concept first appeared in 2019 in the lead up to the London Marathon offering runners in the capital a place to meet up and socialize. The idea has since seen the launch of the New Balance Pizza Co in New York where runners could exchange miles for slices of pizza.

The currency of swapping miles for pints using Strava aims to cover runners of all abilities, whether they're training for the marathon, the Westminster mile or just looking for a challenge in training runs. The campaign will cover four specific Strava challenges:

Challenge 1: MILES UNDER YOUR BELT- 100 MILE CHALLENGE (cumulative challenge)

2nd – 29th March

Reward: Exchange miles for pints on the 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th March

Challenge 2: FINAL LONG RUN – 25KM CHALLENGE (single activity challenge)

6th – 19th April

Challenge 3: Cumulative challenge

27th April – 24th May

Reward: Reward: Exchange miles for pints on the 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th May

Challenge 4:

For challenge 1 you’ll earn 2 pints for every 25 miles and up to 100 miles – which is a fairly big celebration of your efforts if you ask us.

As well as everything you might expect from a well-stocked pub including traditional pub seating and a dartboard, there's also an area downstairs where you can check out the latest New Balance kit, a gym space for post-run stretches and workouts, two treadmills, a changing room, lockers and blank toilet walls where you're encouraged to write motivational messages for other runners.

New Balance is opening the doors of the Runaway pub to London's running clubs including New Balance Run Club community RUN THE BOROUGHS. Other run clubs are also invited to host their runs to and from The Runaway as well. Which is nice of New Balance.

Samantha Matthews, Senior Marketing Manager at New Balance UK and Ireland said; “We’re delighted to bring The Runaway back for another year. We were blown away by the success of the pub last year and we want runners to embrace The Runaway as their community home again this year. As a brand, we support runners of all abilities and our passion is to encourage more people to run. The Runaway gives us the perfect call to action to achieve this, after all, who doesn’t want to earn themselves a pint.”

The Runaway also supports the New Balance ‘We Got Now’ campaign which showcases New Balance athletes and ambassadors in stories about their passions in connection to key sport and culture moments.
