The free pizza pop-up is open until 4 November – so time to start logging those Strava miles
When it comes to carb loading, there aren’t many foods as popular with the running community as pizza. Which is why New Balance recently launched its pop-up restaurant in New York.
The initiative, which launched in October, allows runners to ‘cash in’ their hard-run miles for slices of pizza over the course of four weekends up to the New York marathon.

Using the Strava app, runners from around the world can join the “Miles for Pizza” Challenge and log miles before redeeming them when they visit the NB Pizza Co. shop in New York.
The free pizza is provided by L’Industrie Pizzeria in Williamsburg every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until 4 November. In addition, the NB Pizza Co. has been offering regular running activities including Friday Happy Hour Run, Saturday Long Runs and Single Sundays – where the first 50 runners to join receive a free branded singlet.
With a week left until the New York Marathon, there’s still plenty of time to log those miles (unless you’re at the end of your tapering). They won’t come cheap though. For one slice you’ll need to do five miles and for a full pizza you’ll need to clock up 100 miles – so maybe just aim for a couple of slices.
The full breakdown of those miles for pizza costs:
- 5 miles = 1 slice
- 10 miles = 2 slices
- 25 miles = 3 slices
- 50 miles = 4 slices
- 75 miles = 6 slices
- 100 miles = Full pizza
“What better way to engage with runners in NYC and around the world, than to offer them delicious NY pizza as a reward for their training,” said Tom Carleo, VP of Running at New Balance. “We are excited to open our very first New Balance pizzeria and look forward to welcoming runners to exchange their miles for slices. We hope NB Pizza Co. will motivate runners through their last few weeks of training, offering a unique escape and a place for the running community to come together with our brand and support each other.”
New York Marathon race week opening hours for NB Pizza Co. are as follows:
- Thursday 31 October – 5:30-9pm
- Friday 1 November – 9am-9pm
- Saturday 2 November – 9am-9pm
- Sunday 3 November – 3pm-9pm
- Monday 4 November – 9am-5pm

New Balance will also be at the Jacob K Javits Convention Center marathon expo with a focus on the collectors Marathon Windcheater Jacket and pinnacle Capsule Collection, as well as a “sensory experience that allows runners to engage with the brand through various photo opportunities” throughout the Expo. Which sounds pretty interesting.
